English Language Tests and Learning Tools

Preliminary Invitation

The Institute of International Education (IIE) European Office,

on behalf of the Educational Testing Service (ETS),

invites English language teachers and interested professionals to a one-day

Professional Development Seminar on:

March 17, 2005

10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

House of Professors,1146 Budapest, Ajtósi Dürer sor 19-21.

Purpose of the seminar:

Participants will learn how they can use ETS's high-quality tests and learning tools to evaluate and build the English language skills of their students or employees in order to prepare them for the global academic or business environments.

Program highlights:

Ø Large-scale assessments - the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC). Scores obtained on these tests are accepted all over the world and factor into high-stakes decisions such as university admissions or employment.

Ø On-site testing programs - the TOEFL and TOEIC institutional testing programs give qualified institutions the opportunity to test their own students and use the scores for internal purposes such as placement, assessment of progress, scholarship screening or recruitment.

Ø Learning tools - Criterion, ScoreItNow, TAST and LanguEdge - innovative language learning tools, which offer the critical link between curriculum and assessments.

Ø Test Preparation Fair - in the lunch break, invited publishers and advising centers will display relevant preparation materials and provide information about related services

Ø Grants & Awards from the TOEFL Board

We welcome registrations from:

· English language teachers;

· Directors and representatives of educational institutions and language schools;

· Ministry officials;

· Scholarship administrators;

· HR professionals;

· Educational and career advisers;

· Other professionals interested in English language learning and assessment.

Wednesday, March 16, 2005. Attendance is free.

The event will be hosted and co-sponsored by the Hungarian Fulbright Commission.
